Rebecca Kalkman, LLP, PMH-C
… is a second career for me. I spent years in a career that I enjoyed but didn’t quite leave me feeling fulfilled. My journey has not been straightforward, but returning to school to become a therapist was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. I take my role of walking beside people as they make meaningful change in their life seriously, but don’t be surprised if a little sarcasm or a bad joke slips out from time to time. Even therapy needs a little levity.
Being a therapist…
… for people who are honest with themselves about needing change and willing to do the work to make that happen. I enjoy working with neurodiverse individuals and am passionate about using a combination of education, clinical practice, and lived experience to create a neuroaffirming therapeutic relationship. I am committed to creating a space that is welcoming and affirming for people of all identities and backgrounds.
I tend to be a good fit…
…the belief that healing happens when you feel safe, understood, and accepted just as you are. My role is not to fix you, but to create a safe, supportive space where you can be yourself—where your thoughts and feelings are welcomed, not judged.
I am a person-centered therapist. This means that I listen with empathy and authenticity, and we work together as partners in your growth. I draw from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help you make space for difficult emotions while staying connected to the things that matter most to you. I also incorporate tools from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help identify unhelpful thought patterns and practice new ways of responding that support positive change.
My goal is to walk alongside you as you discover new ways of coping, build on your strengths, and move toward a life that feels more meaningful and balanced.
My approach is centered around…
I received my bachelor’s degree in biological sciences with a minor in psychology from Michigan Technological University. I obtained my master’s degree in counseling psychology from Western Michigan University.
I am certified as a perinatal mental health practitioner (PMH-C) through Postpartum Support International.
Education and Certification
… you can find me spending time with my partner, our son, and our rescue dog. I love a good walk in the woods, crafting, watching or reading Harry Potter for the 1000th time, and eating ice cream at any opportunity.
